How To Relax And Color Hair At The Same Time?

How to Relax & Color Hair at the Same Time?

Things you’ll need

  • Hair color product (A semi-permanent color will be less damaging than a permanent color and can be re-done to keep the color vibrant).
  • Hair relaxing kit (contains ammonium thioglycolate).
  • Petroleum base cream
  • Neutralizer
  • Conditioner
  • Non-sulfate shampoo (you can choose Sulfate-Free Purple Shampoo if you bleach hair)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Apply the petroleum base cream all over your scalp with your fingers. Ensure you also cover your hairline, the nape of your neck, and over and under your ears. This will protect your skin from the harsh chemicals.
  2. Step 2: Mix the relaxing formula as described on the packaging to activate the chemicals.
  3. Step 3: Comb the solution through your hair. Make sure you comb it thoroughly from root to tip.
  4. Step 4: Leave the relaxing chemical to work for about 5 – 10 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Rinse out the relaxing chemical using warm water, and shampoo hair to remove the chemicals completely from your hair.
  6. Step 6: Apply the neutralizer to the hair. This rehardens the hair and makes it less fragile.
  7. Step 7: Apply the conditioner to your hair to provide nutrients in order to ensure the resilience for the next chemical treatment.
  8. Step 8: Wash out the conditioner as directed, and leave the hair to dry. Towel-drying or natural drying is recommended.
  9. Step 9: Mix the hair dye as instructed on the package.
  10. Step 10: Apply hair color by carefully combing from the roots to the tip. (Check out the ways to dye hair evenly with roots)
  11. Step 11: Wait for the shortest time as possible to prevent hair damage. It usually takes around 20-30      minutes.
  12. Step 12: Wash out the hair dye until the water runs clear, and apply the conditioner and leave it to sit for 5 minutes to nurture your hair for faster recovery.
  13. Step 13: Wash out the conditioner, ensure the treated hair is product-free, and let it dry naturally.
