Can you use regular shampoo on tape-in extensions?

There are two points to consider when you wash your new extensions.

First, are they synthetic or natural hair?

And second, is there a particular way to wash tape extensions so that you don’t dissolve the bond?

Fortunately, the same answers apply to both questions.

You need a sulfate-free shampoo without silicone. It also helps to avoid alcohol and oil.

Then, when you condition, only apply the product from the middle of the shaft down, avoiding the tape altogether (1).

You can also skip shampooings by using dry shampoo.

Tape extensions are worth the extra care

More people are enjoying tape-in extensions because they are easy to reposition, remove, and reuse.

They are a smart choice for people with thin, fine hair or breakage that wouldn’t do well with sew-ins or glue (2).

Tape-ins only last for 6 to 8 weeks before they need to be moved, but they look sleek and natural. Be sure to wash and care for them properly so that you don’t need to see the stylist more often to fix them.

In the meantime, use dry shampoo to freshen up your appearance.

And when you wash, be sure to choose a sulfate-free, mild shampoo. This will protect both your hair and the extensions to keep them looking as gorgeous as the day you went to the salon.
